Mission
At MAVS, our mission is simple: we aim to train kids at every level to be better skilled volleyball players by the end of every season. As the largest club in the HOA region, we have the coaching, court space, and resources to serve kids at all levels of volleyball and provide them with sound technique and skills to improve their volleyball acumen and play.
Not only do we train our athletes in season, but we also offer clinics and programs all year long to provide additional opportunities to our MAVS club players as well as others in the community who do not play for a MAVS team. MAVS believes volleyball promotes not only physical development, but also developing good sportsmanship, teamwork, friendship and creating a familial environment. We prioritize maintaining outstanding relationships with our families and business partners.

our history
MAVS has a rich history in KC. Started by Dave Gentile back in 1996, he ran the first season for his daughter's club team. The following year, MAVS grew to three teams. By 1999, Kathy Bates joined Gentile and they had 11 club teams that year. In 2002, MAVS established more permanence in the community by acquiring offices and court space at Fitness Plus More, moving their offices out of Gentile's basement. For the next 10 years, MAVS grew and utilized court space all over the Metro before expanding to a six-court facility in Lenexa.
Since 2017, Kathy has helped MAVS grow to the most prominent club in Kansas City with the largest facility, largest roster of coaches and teams, and created an additional branch of MAVS, MAVS 816 in Leawood. For the past 25 years, Kathy has coached, nurtured, advised, and succeeded at creating successful teams that have won national championships and a plethora of qualifiers. MAVS has a reputation for winning and being a constant force within the HOA region.
Marking a new milestone in 2024, Kathy is passing the reigns to longstanding MAVS coach Kelley Kelley. Kelley and Kathy will lead the club in 2024 through a transitionary period as Kelley learns the MAVS way operationally. The MAVS team is excited about the future of the club and looks forward to meeting you!
